Writing a good English essay is not easy. It needs more thinking to
make the essay is understanable by the reader. Essayist must write the
essay briefly and avoid to be a
plagiator. Someone usually called plagiator because of his or her essay. This
condition can be happened when he or she just take the text or other materials
without any referencing. And it is called plagiarism. Some students are still
confused about the steps to write a good English essay. And they usually take
the texts or other materials from the other source without mention its source. They are also confused about the systhematic
of writing a good English essay. Writing a good English essay must follow some
steps. Teaching & Learning Centre Fact Sheets, The university of New
England (___, para.1) states that “there are two subjects to write a good
essay including preparing for writing and writing the essay”. Both subjects are divided into twelve steps
which is the 1st until the 7th part belong to preparing for writing and from
the 8th until 12th belongs to writing process. Those steps are choosing the
question, analysing the question, rewriting the question, brainstorming,
researching, deciding on the order of presentation, planning, writing the first
draft, revising and editing, writing the second draft, printing and
proofreading, and re-reading.
Choosing the
question is the first step in writing a good English essay. In choosing the
question you have to think more critically because it will bring your topic
which will be discussed. And also you have to think about the time management
in choosing the question. So that you can find the right question as your
interest.
Analysing the
question is the second step. It has an important step to analyse or examine
carefully is it the question appropriate or not to be discussed. In analysing
step you draw the possibilities of the sentence to be able to develop or
not. When it can be able to develop you
must continue to the next step or you must change your question and look for
the better one when it can not beb able to develop the topic.
Rewriting the question
is the third step after analysing the question. Rewriting question can be
tested by using different sentence or at least just diffrent word with the same
topic. It is very beneficial for essayist to know how suitable topic of the question and can
influence the development of the essay.
Brainstorming is
the fourth step in writing a good English essay. Brainstorming related with the
understanding of essayist. Essayist determine how much he or she know about the
subject and he or she describe in the short paragraph.
Researching is the
fifth step in writing a good English essay. In researching, essayist look for
the reference and try to find the example or other information to consolidate
the topic. Make sure to mention the resource that you have taken accurately to
avoid the plagiarism. Write it in appropriate referencing syles to make the
reader understand well about your idea.
Deciding on the
order of presentation is the sixth step in writing a good English essay. In
this step, make sure about your format while performing the essay. Make sure
you have write in a good essay structure including margins, paragraph,
pagination, and other format. Check the the points you want to show to the
reader and the make sure that you have give the title of your essay.
Planning is the
seventh step in writing a good English essay. You should have a planning of
your essay. Write it down in a piece of paper what is your idea and then
develop it in a complex paragraph later in writing process. In this step, you
just write what are the points that you will discuss.
Writing the first
draft is the next step to write your essay. Write your ideas in more complex
word, give the complex explanation, and the example of your ideas. You can
write the essay with giving the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. In
the Introduction, you restate the question by explaining the background
information and/or the definition of
your topic. In the body, you have to state and explain about your idea (thesis
statement) in a paragraph. It means that one point has one paragraph, so it is
possible that there are many paragraphs in the body. In conclusion, you summarize what you have
said about your ideas briefly. It should refers to the question you have stated
and give your judgement about cases which have mentioned before.
The next step is
revising and editing. In this step, you read your essay well and try to look
for the mistake which is exist and revise it. You can read your essay again and
again to check it. Make sure that you check the sentence structure, punctuation,
spelling, and the contents of your essay.
Writing the second
draft is the tenth step to write a good English essay. Write your revision
essay in the computer carefully to make sure that your essay is ready to be
organize to the next step. Make sure that you are understand well with your
essay and used the presentation which is suitable with you so you feel comfort
to use it.
Print and
proofread is the next step to write a good essay. Print out your essay to be a
hard copy to make you easy to read and correct if there is unsuitable format.
Re-read your essay
as the final step to make your essay to be a good essay as you hope. Re-read is
very important for you to make sure that you understand with what you have
written. So that, when there is someone asking to you about it, you can explain
it briefly.
There are many
steps to write a good essay, those are choosing the question, analysing the
question, rewriting the question, brainstorming, researching, deciding on the
order of presentation, planning, writing the first draft, revising and editing,
writing the second draft, printing and proofreading, and re-reading. All of
this steps can be grouped into two main subjects. The first subject is the
preparation for writing and the second subject is the process of writing the
essay. Choosing the question, analysing the question, rewriting the question,
brainstorming, researching, deciding on the order of presentation, and planning
are included in preparation subject while writing the first draft, revising and
editing, writing the second draft, printing and proofreading, and re-reading
are included in the process of writing the essay. These steps is very important
thing for the essayist to write his or her essay. All of these step should be
done and do not miss one of the steps because it will be give the bad effect
for your essay. It can make your essay is difficult to be understood by the
reader or there are some information which is not included in your essay. So, in
the conclusion, essayist should do all of these step to be able to write a good
English essay.
